Closet Corner: Inspired Design for the New Year

With the new year comes new opportunities and perspectives. A time to make a change you’ve been holding off on—a new job, a healthy lifestyle change, and yes, even a new closet. Through the years we have discovered that fear is the main thing holding people back from making a change in their closets. And it’s understandable. People don’t know where to start and they are also worried about the process and the displacement it can cause in their busy lives. Kitchens, bathrooms, closets—these are the three main areas in our homes we use daily and for many people, the idea of making a change to one of those rooms can be daunting. But it doesn’t have to be. Here are three things I recommend you consider as you think about making some much-needed changes to your storage options in 2018.

1. Ask about the design process and what happens after the installation

A good closet company will take care of the entire process start to finish. While big box stores offer closet solutions, most of them leave the measurements and storage decisions up to you which can create confusion and stress. Look for a company with trained designers who can understand your lifestyle and needs. Also, ask if someone can come to your house—getting a feel for your style and home goes a long way in closet design.
When working with a company, make sure they are up on current trends and have plenty of color and texture options for you to choose from. Coastal and light tones are popular right now but you can make a closet as personalized as you want it to be from colors to accessories.

2. Visit their showroom

Find a company with a showroom and go see the different styles, colors, and design options in person. Unless you can see it, there’s really no way you can verify the color of the materials a company is using as colors often look completely different when viewed online. It’s also good to feel the quality of a product first hand as you make product decisions with your designer. A showroom can also be a source of inspiration for you as you select accessories and layouts.

3. Find a company with national quality products and services

Look for a company that is accountable to a bigger brand and idea while still being local. Closet companies that represent national brands usually have more training from design to installation. I’m proud to say we have partnered with Inspired Closets to become the only certified dealer in Florida. Inspired Closets is used by designers all over the country and is one of eight sponsors for the 2018 HGTV Dream Home. This is a huge step for us as a company! It also means we will be able to enhance our already great customer service. And that’s what people want—an excellent experience from start to finish and, at the end, a beautiful and functional closet that simplifies their lives.
